Do you also find it difficult to eat fewer carbohydrates when you’re outside the home? This isn’t uncommon as many cafes, restaurants, food outlets etc offer foods that are rich in carbohydrates such as  sandwiches, pizza, fries, noodles, cakes and pastries. With a little bit of effort you make sure that you can eat low carb when you aren’t at home.

On the road

Be prepared when you travel by car. With good planning and a cool box, this is easy to do. Always bring a tube of mayonnaise to season the dishes. You can easily take this with you:

  • meatballs, chicken legs
  • omelette, rolled, filled with vegetables and / or salmon
  • Low carbohydrate crackers and egg salad
  • Cocktail sausages
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • nuts
  • raw vegetables such as radish, tomato, carrot, cucumber

Flying

It's not easy on an airplane. The meals you get are usually not low in carbohydrates. This is how you approach this:

  • Do not go on an airplane with an empty stomach. Eat something at the airport or at home, so you keep control.
  • From meals only eat what you can and want to eat, leave the rest..
  • Do not choose a meal for diabetics, it contains less fat (which is not necessary) and often more carbohydrates / sugars.
  • Take nuts and solid raw food as an emergency supply.

In the hotel

Although the temptations are also clearly visible, the buffets in the hotels offer many options for eating low carb.. If there are only sandwiches, ask for the fillings separately and ask for some salad. You can always choose:

  • A variety of home-made meat, fish, chicken
  • A variety of cheese and sausage
  • raw vegetables with a dressing or sauce
  • salads
  • olives
  • red fruit, such as berries

Restaurants

It is easier than you think to eat few carbohydrates in a restaurant.

  • Many restaurants have a menu on their website or outside the restaurant. View this and make a selection in advance.
  • Discard the bread, fries and potatoes and request extra vegetables instead.
  • For dessert you can often opt for a cheese plate, this is low in carbohydrates.
  • Low carb fruit, such as berries with whipped cream.

With these tips you will certainly succeed this year.

Remember that staying the same weight during holidays is also a bonus!  Eat, live, walk, enjoy and relax. Enjoy!
